Commodore's Newsletter dated 7 February 2006

Race 8 of the Westpark Travelift series Wednesday 08 Feb 06. And our Annual Ladies Race. You must have a lady on the helm for the duration of the race, otherwise all else is the same. Our thanks to Westpark Travelift who are sponsoring the series prize of a lift out and return, a waterblast and 5 days hard-stand. A handy prize for the next haul-out. This is in addition to the standard offer of $75 + GST for a lift and scrub (with shifting of slings where possible) regardless of boat length for club members on production of your membership card. Call Kevin Lidgard on 416-6111 for a booking.

"Styles Ahead", the Hairdressers at the Marina are sponsoring a Ladies haircut as a first prize, and have some pocket book/calendars for all ladies taking part in the race, whether skippers or crew.

Thanks to the ever helpful George Clark at Westpark Chandlery/Race Office in sponsoring a $30 voucher for first in each Wednesday race. Also a voucher for a shirt for second and a cap for third from the Club.

Clearwater Cove Brasserie, our sponsors of the Cruising Series (and our
Club-house!) and the Spot Prize per Race, have been open since 4 January, seven days a week, 1200-1430 for Lunch and Dinners from 1800 (bar open at 1700). I've been sampling a few of the latest offerings recently, and very good it is too. The more we support them, the more they will be able to do for us. Sunday Roasts are back on every Sunday from 1800 for $9.95. Also, there is Seafood Platter available every Monday from 1800 for $12.95. Great value I think. I also hear rumours of a new menu, new wine-list, and the opening of the Pizzeria later this year. Buon Appetito! As usual, a booking will avoid disappointment in case of turning up when a block booking/function/wedding etc is underway. Ph 416-5975 or I'm assured clearwatercovebrasserie@hotmail.com will be monitored.

Hopefully, I'll see as many of you as possible on Wednesday. Please head on up to the Brasserie as soon as you can after racing so we can get the prize-giving underway and not make too late a night of it for those who have to go to work the next day. There is a Sailors Meal for us on Wednesday evening and a discount on the beer on production of your ID card. Even if you cant make the sailing, pop down and catch up with your fellow club members.

See you at sea, (and then ashore),

Club Burgees. All members racing must display a club burgee as set out in the General Sailing Instructions. Non-members should display some other burgee or divisional flag to signify they are racing. Remember that as of last year, the Part 91 Maritime Rules now officially differentiate between racing yachts and non-racing yachts. Feel free to fly them whenever you are aboard, but please secure them when in your berth. Much as we would like to sell you another one for $30, they are only designed for occasional use, and faded and frayed burgees on boats in the marina does not exude a positive image. You know who you are!

T-shirts/Hats. Committee Haberdasher David Jury informs me there is a new lot of shirts and hats at the Chandlery. Feel free to cash in those vouchers and/or buy up for presents. Also remember that you can buy your own shirts/caps/fleeces/whatever and take them to TP Uniform Embroidery
(8/22 Moselle Ave, Henderson, Ph 837-0800) and get whatever you like put on as well as our logo - boatnames, class insignia etc. There is no trademark on the CCYC logo - feel free to stick it wherever you like!

Fenders: Honorary Member Jim Gibson at Westpark Canvas has given us a deal on new covers for the blue foam rubber filled fenders that are on most marina berths. Most of these are in a shocking state and don’t work very well when so frayed that the foam rubber falls out. For $30, Jimmy will sell you a new cover and stick your old foam back inside ready to secure to your marina. Just drop the old foams in to Jimmy at the shed by the marina office or stack behind his shed after hours. Actually, do this any case, as sticking the old ones in the rubbish skips only means they will sit in a landfill for a few thousand years.

Further to yesterdays email, some SI's from the OOD (John Lidgard, 834-0476,
021-296-0595):

Unfortunately, I have been too casual with communicating our plans including courses for the series and intend to attempt to rectify the situation for the remainder of the season.

There will now be a set course which will be:

From the start near Rona buoy, through the main span of the Harbour Bridge to Navy Buoy SE of Browns Island (port) to Red Buoy Islington Bay (Stbd).
Finshers will take their own time when abreast of Islington Red. Fairway
Marks: Vessels with sail South of Sandspit Beacon and North of Doris Rock and Brown Island Beacons. (Standard CCYC Fairway Marks per General SIs).

All boats are to monitor VHF Channel 77 for any changes from 0945 on race day.

Anchorage/Shore Party: The final destination will be decided on the day and announced on VHF 77 and 73. It would be helpful if competitors called at NIMBLE on D2 before 0915.

*************************************************************************

Our fourth Clearwater Cove Brasserie Cruising Race on Saturday 04 Feb 06 with start in the vicinity of Rona buoy at 1000. Details from John Lidgard (834-0476). Please note a new phone number for John. Please monitor VHF CHANNEL 77 for this series.

The Club Picnic will be on Waitangi Day, Monday 6 Feb 06. This will be in the Motuihe/Browns Island area. So do the Cruising Race on the Saturday and make a long weekend out of it. Details from John Lidgard.

Its the Ladies Race on Wednesday 8 Feb 06. So get your galley-slave/other half/better half/crew member ready to take over the handle-bars for this once a year race.
